MISS ME BUT LET ME GO

A POEM I WROTE FOR MY FATHER'S FUNERAL

I’ve traveled the road that a Father follows,

Taken the long path, as it should be so,

I’ve had my successes and made my mistakes,

Miss me but let me go.

Five boys I had, such a chore to behold,

Always busy, life was never slow,

But oh the joy of the family we are,

Miss me but let me go.

Five boys and then add their wives,

And the grandchildren that they would sow,

So many to fill my life with joy,

Miss me but let me go.

As we all grew older and moved apart,

I did my best to keep us all in tow,

I’d phone one, then another, each and every day,

Miss me but let me go.

Now I’m gone, my life complete,

I hope that the thread I did sew,

Keeps them all together, as I have always hoped,

Miss me but let me go.
